Not all that Glitters is Gold’ goes the common aphorism, reminding us that not everything we believe to be precious actually is. Malinda Jayasinghe invites you to explore the colonial classifications of identity in post-independence Sri Lanka in this satirical series of line drawings. Replicating the styles of 18th century taxonomies, the drawings critique imperial and patriarchal knowledge production systems. In a playful reinterpretation of the aphorism, the artist produces two bodies of work to categorize flora and fauna.
